Mark Webber had a dream debut racing in front of his home crowd at the 2002 Australian GP, scoring points in his very first race for a below par Minardi. He won his first GP only 129 race starts later at 2009 in Germany. It was an emotional moment for the Australian who had raced for eight seasons in four different teams before he got his first chance to grace the top step of the podium. Webber had one more win in the 2009 season but more importantly, he partnered Sebastian Vettel to take Red Bull to the second spot on the constructors’ standings. The Aussie ended the year with two wins to finish 4th in the championship. One of the other notable points of Webber’s 2009 form is that this strong performance came after a serious accident which he suffered prior to the start of the season. The Red Bull driver broke his leg in a cycling accident and was feared to be unfit to drive for 2009. But he came back to 100% fitness and raced like nothing had gone wrong to bring out the best results of his career. This incident is a strong example of Webber’s characteristic resilience.Webber has perhaps been the biggest surprise of 2010 with four wins in the first 12 races taking the title fight to the supposedly favoured Vettel. He has been surrounded by controversy this year as his strong comments indicated that the championship was being played in the hands of his teammate. Nevertheless, despite the reports and his massive shunt in Valencia, the Australian stands resolutely.
